FeverTags

Farmers can now add another innovative tool to their box of tricks.

The device is called a FeverTag & it can detect changes in an animals core body temperature. This could prove a valuable device for farmers & feedlotters as a rise in an animals temperature can be an early warning sign to possible illness.

The FeverTag is a light weight, durable gadget that is installed like a regular ear-tag. The device has a computer microprocessor chip that reads the animals temperature every 15 minutes, if the temperature exceeds the tags programmed setting a light will turn on, signalling that the animals normal temperature range has been breached & it may need attention.

This early detection of illness has numerous benefits:
- Production losses from chronically ill animals can be minimised as they can be easily identified & treated
- Medicine costs can be reduced as sick animals are detected in the early stages of illness & won’t need extensive treatment regimes
- Labour costs can be reduced, especially in a feedlot, as sick animals can be found faster
