I think most farmers are.
But, there’s some good news, there’s a revolution that might just allow farmers to easily get the true story out there. It’s called the social media revolution & it’s at nearly every farmers fingertips, literally.
Today people are more interested than ever in where their food comes from & how it’s produced. So if people are looking for this information we need to make sure they are getting it from the right source. A simple status update on Facebook or Twitter about what you’ve been doing on the farm today may seem boring to you but it might just be the connection people are looking for. If they know you’re a farmer, or if their friends friend knows you’re a farmer, you might just be their first point of call when they hear something about agriculture in the media, instead of google or an animal activist website.
Blogging is proving to be another great social networking tool farmers can use to tell their story. We were pleasantly surprised at how successful our simple Trio Angus blog has been in sharing our own story. Many of our friends & relatives read it & then share our posts with their own friends, it’s amazing how fast the word can spread!
Most importantly social media gives producers & consumers a platform where they can interact. This is exactly what the industry needs, if people have a question about farming we want them to be able to ask a farmer, not google.
For those of you that may be thinking ‘social media’ is a passing fad I encourage you to check out the video below!
I will post more about how to start your own blog soon!
