The Angus Youth National RoundUp was held last weekend in Glen Innes. This junior show is for Angus Youth members & it incorporates educational sessions with cattle classes, junior judging & paraders competitions.
The RoundUp is a unique event because alot of the cattle at the show are ‘ballot’ animals. This means that studs have brought them along for kids to use throughout the weekend, this allows anyone to compete at the RoundUp, whether they have access to cattle or not. The event also caters for all experience levels with many novice competitors attending this year.
Competitors had the chance to win some great prizes & scholarships at the RoundUp including a trip to New Zealand, a trip to the SA Heifer Show, two registered Angus heifers & the opportunity to be an Angus Youth Ambassador. Although 180 entries were initially received, with most states represented, only 145 competed as the floods preventing many from attending. However the event still proved a great success & it’s a credit to the volunteer committee responsible for organising it. The RoundUps success can also be attributed to the numerous the generous sponsors that supported the event.
