...AND IT WAS ALL YELLOW....

This week our canola crop has come out in full flower & it certainly is a bright sight!

14th Aug
It has taken several months of preparation & ongoing managment to get the crop to this stage. This has been done under the guidance of my dad Sam & also our agronomist who keep us to date on the latest technologies & farming methods. We grow canola because we can use it as a break crop for weeds, if we can control our weeds better it means that there will be more water & nutrients available to our crops or pastures in the future.

8th Sept
Canola is also grown in many other parts of Australia & it is our countries third largest crop. Canola oil is used in many food components & is recognised for its heart health benefits. Other types of canola oil are used as a basis for resins found in paints & ink.

The next step for our canola crop is to get it wind-rowed. This involves cutting the plant down & allowing it to dry before we harvest it.
